I completely expect undesirable results, as you experienced. I have supported avast! for 14 years, and it is the most configurable anti-virus on earth, but the defaults leave something to be desired. So, avast! (or any) A/V has hooks into all these files that are completely being replaced. And the upgrade from 8.0 to 8.1 is a FULL replacement of the O.S. Different models but same manufacture.Īnti-virus is the most invasive software that we will ever load onto our systems.

Also not mentioned is all machine used at the company are Asus. For my knowledge and benefit of learning the ever growing field of IT I wanted to see if anyone ran into the same issue. I don't have many computers with this issue (maybe 3 or 4) so as stated it is not a huge issue.

However I do not see a reason as to why the OS wouldn't upgrade with Avast and then after uninstalling it would. I agree there have been many many issues and not enough positive.

For the basic uses my office use them for, Win 8.1 and 8 are fine for the most part.
